Vice President Operations: 1-year Maternity Leave Coverage

Talk Shop, Western Canada’s largest and most connected public relations firm, is looking to cover a one-year maternity leave on the senior leadership team.

Key Responsibilities

Operations and Business Management:

  • Participate in and contribute to regular and emergent management meetings
  • Participate in and contribute to regular finance and accounting meetings
  • Manage and document regular team meetings as needed
  • Lead and manage all operational projects including but not limited to client services updates, CRM, business automation, Talk Shop processes and policies etc.
  • Serve as main point of contact for management and delegation to the Talk Shop Administrative or Office

Human Resources:

  • Conduct all emergent staff or management HR meetings
  • Support Business Directors in identifying, managing and documenting employee action plans
  • Support Business Directors in executing HR function within their respective business units – provide templates, direction and support
  • Manage, coordinate and document all staff promotions
  • Prepare for, execute and document bi-annual employee evaluations for Business Directors and support Business Directors in executing bi-annual employee evaluations for their respective teams
  • Prepare for, execute and document outcomes of bi-annual town hall meetings
  • Update, roll out and issue company memos/communications for all policy updates or company changes at Talk Shop
  • Serve as the main point of contact, overall manager and Talk Shop representative to Business Directors and staff on HR, company policy, client services and operations
  • Review of select incoming resumes (as directed by the Talk Shop Office Manager)
  • Preliminary screening of candidates
  • Mandate and develop programs for integration and training of new staff
  • Develop programs for ongoing training and development of staff
  • Management and development of all employee training materials, processes, management and evaluation
  • Provide support and insight into any general HR matters

Business Development:

  • Participate in business development and sales activities to support annual revenue goals
  • Conduct sales meetings, prepare and present proposals and oversee signing of new accounts
  • Represent Talk Shop in a business development capacity


  • 10+ years of relevant PR and/or communications agency experience
  • Background serving an organization in a leadership capacity
  • Experience managing multiple aspects of HR for a mid-sized team included recruitment, retention, and issues management
  • Experience overseeing and implementing operational projects from start to finish
  • Knowledge of and participation in business development/ sales
  • Ability to see larger picture and make high-level decisions on behalf of the company
  • Ability to manage priorities and balance deadline-driven work load with complete accuracy
  • Experience preparing, managing and overseeing budgets and interpreting financial statements
  • Presentation skills – able to run meetings and present concepts effectively
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – ability to manage teams and clients effectively
  • Work hard-play-hard personality that values humility, ingenuity, humor and integrity

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation will be dependent on relevant experience. After 3 months of employment, the individual will be entitled to Talk Shop’s comprehensive benefits program, which includes:
