Challenge

Beem Credit Union was navigating a period of expansion, digital transformation and industry consolidation, but its national media presence wasn’t keeping pace with the evolution of the business. In a financial services landscape dominated by Canada’s Big Six banks and well-funded fintech challengers, Beem needed to earn a meaningful share of the conversation while establishing its executives as credible voices on the issues shaping the industry.
The challenge wasn’t simply generating more coverage; it was building influence from a standing start. With Beem’s internal communications team leading corporate announcements and issues management, Talk Shop needed to create an earned media engine that could elevate executive thought leadership, turn key business milestones into compelling national stories and grow Beem’s share of voice over time.
Our Approach
Talk Shop developed an integrated approach that brought together proactive thought leadership, strategic corporate announcements, community storytelling and awards recognition to create multiple opportunities for Beem and its leaders to earn attention.
The program positioned CEO Brian Harris and other senior leaders as expert voices on issues including housing affordability, open banking and credit union consolidation, while major milestones like Beem’s Payments Canada membership were amplified through strategic media outreach and press release distribution. Community initiatives, including the Purple Cap Awards, were brought to life through recipient storytelling to unlock regional coverage, while an awards strategy put Beem’s leadership in contention alongside larger financial institutions. Together, the always-on approach is building Beem’s credibility, discoverability and share of the national financial conversation.

Against a strategy that set a deliberately modest 1-2% share of voice growth target by year-end, Beem's share of voice grew from a 1.4% baseline to 11% within the first two full months of the program, driven largely by the Payments Canada announcement, the Purple Cap Awards campaign, and growing executive visibility. The Payments Canada press release alone was syndicated 166 times for 21.3M+ impressions, while the Purple Cap Awards release reached 17M+ people across 108 syndications, with regional broadcast interest from CBC, CHEK, and OMNI News following shortly after.
The program continues to build momentum: Beem and its executives have since been recognized in BCBusiness and Business in Vancouver, and Talk Shop is actively securing podcast and speaking opportunities to sustain executive visibility beyond any single announcement cycle.
Let’s Talk Shop.
